We surveyed 2,000 people across the UK, including more than a quarter with a serious medical condition: type 2 diabetes, obesity, cancer or a heart condition. We found many lacked any protection at all. Underinsurance in people with medical conditions is a real problem in the UK.
Our report 'An Unhealthy Situation' highlights the scale of underinsurance amongst people with health conditions. Of the 2,000 people surveyed, we found that:
- 61% of type 2 diabetes sufferers have no protection
- 66% of cancer sufferers have no protection
- 60% of obese people have no protection.
People with health conditions perhaps have the greatest need for protection and it's worrying that this group do not have sufficient cover in place.
