The Exeter sees increased demand for digital healthcare services

Protection and health insurer, The Exeter, saw year on year usage of its free member health and wellbeing app, HealthWise, grow by 60% in 2021. Built alongside leading digital healthcare provider Square Health, the app provides benefits worth up to £1,800 per year to help members positively manage a healthy lifestyle.

Remote GP appointments continued to be the most-used service in 2021, with 94% of members receiving advice or an onward referral following their consultation. Other services that were popular with members included physiotherapy and mental health support.

Usage of mental health services increased 52% when compared to 2020, as members accessed support for concerns ranging from anxiety and depression to work-related stress.

The Exeter’s members in their thirties made most use of HealthWise services, with more than a quarter (28%) of users aged between 31 and 40 years old.

The increased uptake in HealthWise usage demonstrates the importance of value-added services for members looking to access support and treatment from qualified experts, especially in light of increased waiting times for appointments through the NHS.

Steve Bryan, Director of Distribution & Marketing at The Exeter, commented:

“2021 was another difficult year for many families, and that’s why it’s fantastic to see our members continuing to turn to HealthWise to access the medical advice and treatments they needed.

Technology makes the provision of medical advice easier than ever, and the continued increase in usage amongst our members is testament to how much they value the service as part of their policy.

The feedback we receive about HealthWise is extremely positive and we are continually looking at ways in which we can make the experience even better to help our members look after their personal health and wellbeing.”

The Exeter has produced a HealthWise 2021 report, giving advisers insight into the full usage of its value-added services. A copy of the report can be downloaded here.
